Museum of Richmond
The Museum of Richmond‘s Poverty exhibition looks at Richmond during the period 1600-1948, from the point of view of the poorer classes. This includes the history of Richmond’s workhouse and almshouses and the effects of the Poor Laws. As well as telling the story of an often overlooked class of people, the exhibition looks at individual people and their experiences of poverty.
The exhibition is based on a new publication from the Richmond Local History Society, Poverty and Philanthropy in Victorian Richmond, written by Simon Fowler.
