From May to July, our President, Paul Velluet, is organising a programme of guided walks. They are all listed here: those shown in grey text have already taken place.

All the guided walks are free for members of the Society.  We start at 7.00 pm and conclude by 9.00 pm, adjourning to a historic local pub.  Numbers are limited to a maximum of 20 people. Members may bring one ‘guest’ free of charge; other non-members will be charged £5 per person, subject to availability.  We will give preference to members.

** To reserve a place on any of these four walks, please email Liz Velluet: rich.hist@yahoo.co.uk

Wed 8 May: Twickenham Park and the St Margarets Estate from Richmond Bridge to Corsellis Square

Led by local historian Professor Andrew George, this will include the private grounds of the St Margaret’s Estate and the residential quarter in the grounds of the early-18th century Gordon House.  Meet at 7.00 pm on the Twickenham side of Richmond Bridge at the junction of Willoughby Road and Richmond Road.

Wed 5 June: The historic heart of Richmond through five centuries

A walk led by the Society’s President, Paul Velluet, focusing on the development of the core of the Town from the beginning of the 16th century to the end of the 20th century.  Meet at 7.00 pm outside The Richmond Theatre on Little Green.

Wed 3 July: The changing face of historic Brentford

Led by local historian and guide Shirley Newton through the historic canal-side parts of the Town and the elegant late-17th century/early-18th century area of The Butts.  Meet at 7.00 pm at the Albany Road bus-stop in Ealing Road, Brentford (65 bus from Richmond).

Wed 31 July: Richmond’s historic riverside villas, past and present, and their landscape setting

Led by the Society’s President, Paul Velluet, with local landscape historian, Chris Sumner, including a visit (a rare privilege) to the grounds of the Grade I listed, 18th century Asgill House. Meet at 7.00 pm outside The Richmond Theatre on Little Green.
