Author, TV presenter and Richmond resident Bamber Gascoigne on AN UNEXPECTED ADVENTURE – WEST HORSLEY PLACE.
Bamber will be talking about his project to restore the Surrey mansion he inherited in 2014 from his 99-year-old aunt Mary, Duchess of Roxburghe.
Bamber says:
“An intriguing story at all stages. Astonishment in a solicitor’s office. Beauty of the place. Strings attached. Childhood visit. About the house. First view upstairs. The duchess’s car. The duchess’s jewellery. The duchess’s life and hard times. Sotheby’s discoveries. A strange proposal over coffee and biscuits. A very unusual parking lot. A charity. First night plans.
“As you will see, I am deliberately giving little away. The whole thing is too surprising, too quirky, too improbable to be described in a conventional summary. So a bit of a tease, and I hope you will come and enjoy discovering what on earth it’s all about.”
